Who We Are

The Church Benefits Association (CBA), originally founded in 1915 as the Church Pensions Conference, has evolved over more than a century into a trusted network of faith-based benefits professionals. Today, we continue that mission by providing member-supported benefits that promote the well-being of clergy and their families.

In 2025, CBA marked its 110th anniversary, honoring a longstanding commitment to serving those who serve the Church. Across wars, financial crises, and times of change, CBA has remained rooted in the generosity and dedication of its members. What began as an annual gathering has grown into a vibrant association representing over 50 member organizations that collectively manage more than $100 billion in net assets across pension and health plans.

CBA serves over one million clergy, lay workers, and their families, who in turn support 30 million denomination members. This collective strength makes CBA a leading voice for U.S. denominational benefit programs and a global advocate for faith-based benefits.

Membership in the CBA is open to any organization sponsoring or administering church benefit programs. While the annual conference remains a cornerstone of the association—offering a forum for education, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices—CBA’s mission has expanded to include year-round support for excellence in church benefits.

The association is committed to fostering a supportive environment that encourages collaboration among its members, creating greater value for the communities they serve. Through nonpartisan education, fellowship, and shared expertise, CBA continues to uphold the traditions of church benefit boards while advancing innovative solutions for the future.
